Why Choose This 3 Day Private Tour in Iceland?

This itinerary is designed for travellers who want to experience several of Iceland's defining landscapes without committing to a long Ring Road journey. In three days, the route moves from the historical and geothermal landmarks of the Golden Circle to the waterfalls, volcanic coast and glacier scenery of South Iceland.

The private driver-guide format is especially valuable on a compact itinerary. Departure times, scenic stops and optional activities can be adapted to your pace, interests, travel season and daylight rather than following a shared group schedule.

This is the Reykjavík/South Iceland version of the three-day collection. Travellers starting in North Iceland can compare it with the 3 Day Private Tour Iceland from Akureyri.

Reykjavík / Keflavík → Golden Circle → South Coast

Day 1: Reykjavík, Golden Circle and South Coast of Iceland

Your private Iceland journey begins with pickup from your hotel in Reykjavík or directly from Keflavík Airport, depending on your arrival time. The first part of the day is dedicated to the Golden Circle, one of Iceland's best-known scenic routes.

Visit Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Iceland's most important historical places, before continuing to the Geysir geothermal area and the active Strokkur geyser. The Golden Circle section finishes at Gullfoss, one of the country's defining waterfalls.

The journey then turns toward the South Coast. Depending on the season and available daylight, the day can continue to Seljalandsfoss, where the path behind the waterfall may be accessible when conditions allow.

Day 2: South Coast, Black Sand Beach and Glacier Landscapes in Iceland

The second day is devoted to the dramatic South Coast. Begin with Skógafoss and, according to the pace of the day, additional nearby landscapes before reaching the volcanic coast around Vík.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach is one of the route's most striking stops, with basalt formations, Atlantic surf and views toward the Reynisdrangar sea stacks. From Vík, continue east across lava fields, moss-covered landscapes and wide volcanic plains.

Depending on the season and your interests, the itinerary may include a stop near Sólheimajökull or broader views toward Mýrdalsjökull and Vatnajökull. The final overnight is positioned farther east to make the next morning at the glacier lagoon much more comfortable.

Day 3: Jökulsárlón, Diamond Beach and Return to Reykjavík in Iceland

The final day begins with one of the principal highlights of the entire journey: Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Floating icebergs, changing colours and the surrounding Vatnajökull landscape make this one of the most memorable locations in South Iceland.

Continue to nearby Diamond Beach, where pieces of glacier ice can be scattered across the black volcanic sand. Seasonal activities may include a glacier-lagoon boat tour, a winter ice-cave visit or another short specialist glacier experience.

After the lagoon and coast, the private route returns west along the South Coast toward Reykjavík. Stops can be adjusted according to daylight, weather and the travellers' pace, with arrival in Reykjavík during the evening.
